ormond hotel, dublin
We were appointed in 2023 as consultant conservation architects to the redevelopment of the Ormond Hotel in Dublin. The project is being led by Mitchell McDermott project managers and DMOD as lead architects. An updated planning application is due to be submitted in June 2026.
The site is of cultural significance as the Sirens chapter of James Joyce’s Ulysses was set in the original Ormond Hotel on the site which was demolished in the mid-20th century and the site re-developed at the time.
Part of the grant of planning permission required that the new 121 bedroom hotel retains a Joycean theme with the floor plan of the original 19th century buildings that would have existed at the time of Joyce’s engagement with the site being reflected in a floor pattern in the public reception areas and the new premises will be called the Ormond Hotel to reflect the history of the site.
