2 The Bungalows in Greenore, Co. Louth is an unusual protected structure both from a design and construction point of view. The Victorian/Arts & Crafts style house was one of four units apparently imported as a timber frame kit around 1895 and developed as short stay golf links holiday homes as part of the now demolished Greenore hotel.

We were engaged as conservation architects to restore this important Louth protected structure. The original internal finishes which comprised of a wall lining paper onto glued hessian material to internal timber boarding had largely been removed.  The works involved the re-lining of the walls with a calcium silicate fire lining board to fire protect the structure while preserving the legibility of internal joinery trims and a re-ordering of the main living area.

Measures were taken to upgrade the energy efficiency of the structure were undertaken comprising of the insulation and draught proofing of the suspended timber floors, woodfibre attic insulation and wall insulation where original sawdust infill had settled and upgrading of the building boiler, heating controls and distribution system.

The project was exhibited in the 2014 Irish Georgian Society Conservation Awards.
